Bush’s dirtiest little secret: The coalification of the United States

By Peter Moss

posted April 21, 2006

In 2002, there were media reports that under the United States there are coal reserves sufficient to last for 275 years after petroleum is exhausted.

Although many people do not know it, catalytic hydrogenation of coal was used in Germany to fuel its war machine during World War II. In fact, Bergius and Fischer-Tropsch are two such chemical processes demonstrated on an industrial scale. Also not widely known, the first of the diesel engines ran on powdered coal, and could do so again with some engine modifications. Finally, there can be coal-fired Stanley steamers that will run on coal and even on wood.

The “no Kyoto treaty” stance of the Bush regime is caused by the secret intent to use coal (liquefied and powdered) which will make carbon emissions and global warming much more severe than now. Studies show that signing the Kyoto treaty would not wreck the U.S. economy, as Bush falsely claims. But it would put a big dent in the coalification of the United States planned by Bush.
