Vermont should move forward with installing more wind turbines (Oct. 7). As a college student, I have grown up in an era of environmental degradation, foreign wars for oil, and increasing corporate dominance. From the global warming-enhanced destruction of Hurricane Katrina to the prolonged conflict in Iraq, it is clear that these issues will continue to define my lifetime.
The natural vistas of the Green Mountains have inspired generations of Vermonters. Let them inspire a new generation with the occasional wind turbine, symbols of a more sustainable and peaceful future.

Wind can’t be base load
Shay Totten reports that wind power could easily produce the base, or average, load of electricity used in Vermont, which he gives as 600 MW (Oct. 7). His calculation of how many turbines that would require is, however, quite wrong.
