Lake Monsters launch “player for a day” contest

BURLINGTON — Looking for a holiday gift for that baseball fans with big league dreams? The Vermont Lake Monsters may have just the ticket.

A lucky fan will become a “Lake Monster for a Day” as part of a new contest launched Tuesday, the club announced.

The “Lake Monster for a Day” opportunity will be auctioned off on the team’s website starting Oct. 24 and finishing Nov. 2.

The winner of the auction (who must be 18 or older to participate), will be identified on a press release announcing they have been signed to a one-day contract with the club.

The winner will:

• Receive a limo ride to Centennial Field (must be within 100 miles of Centennial Field) for the game, then suit up and participate in pre-game activities with the team, including taking batting practice, shagging fly balls, stretching, signing autographs, and throwing out the first pitch.
* Have a chance to do an inning of play-by-play on the radio and watch the game from the Lake Monsters dugout.
* Receive (and be allowed to keep) their complete uniform set including: two hats (batting practice and home), game socks, game belt, team dugout jacket, game pants, two jerseys (batting practice and home), cleats, a glove, batting gloves, two wooden bats, a bat bag, and 100 baseball cards featuring themselves and their lifetime stats.
• Be presented after the game with a game check for one day’s pay with the Vermont Lake Monsters Baseball Club, totaling $28.33.

"It is the dream of a lot of people to be a professional baseball player, so we thought that we'd give one of our fans the opportunity to live out that dream for one day," Vermont Lake Monsters General Manager C.J. Knudsen said. "The chance to dress, work out and hang around a professional team and get paid for doing it."
