Eleven arrested in anti-VY protest

BRATTLEBORO — Police arrested 11 anti-nuclear protesters, including a veteran and a nurse, on charges of trespassing Monday at Vermont Yankee headquarters.

The 11 were part of a larger group of more than 100 people from three states who turned out for what organizers promise will be monthly demonstrations against a proposed 20 percent power increase at the aging Vernon reactor.

Organizer Deb Katz of the Massachusetts chapter of the Citizens Awareness Network said the number of protesters has increased with each event, from 45 in November, to more than 70 last month.
