Exporting efficiency: New Brunswick plugs in to Vermont concept

BURLINGTON — Vermont’s five-year effort to squeeze as much energy savings as possible for consumers is getting a sister just to the north in New Brunswick, Canada.

The province, with roughly the same population as Vermont, is embarking this year on Efficiency New Brunswick, a multi-pronged effort aimed at helping provincial residents save electricity costs, as well as home heating fuel.

Two top-level ministers from New Brunswick jetted down to Burlington last week during a conference sponsored by Efficiency Vermont. There, they joined several top staffers from the relatively new agency for a whirlwind tour of meetings with Vermont energy officials, as well as various site visits including a weatherization project and a stop at Home Depot to see how energy-efficient products are displayed to the public.
