It has been a year since top Douglas administration officials told a key legislative panel that within a year the Vermont State Hospital would have fewer than 30 people on any given day, and only those who could not be placed in some form of community treatment program.
At the time, the Vermont State Hospital (VSH) routinely had 45 patients on any given day. As of March 9, there were 46 patients; the average census for the past 45 days was slightly more than 48, according to state officials.
Top administration officials will once again come before the joint legislative Mental Health Oversight Committee on Wednesday to explain the newly revised timelines and cost estimates for the so-called Futures Project.
